Whether you are visiting SMU because you are considering taking classes at this Prestigious University or if you just want to walk the grounds and learn about the History of Southern Methodist University, if you stay at one of the Hotels Near SMU Dallas, it makes it much easier during your stay. When visiting with your High School Son or Daughter, wouldn’t it make it so much easier if you could just walk out of the front door of your Hotel and walk to the SMU Campus? That would be the best option if you are not familiar with your surroundings.
What is SMU?
If you are already looking to stay near SMU, you probably know a little about Southern Methodist University. This School is a Private University and was founded in 1911 by the Methodist Church. There are about 11,000 students at SMU and of these about 6,500 are undergraduates. The SMU Campus is beautiful to walk around on nice days and has many wonderful buildings to take pictures as keep sake memories. If your child decides this is where they want to go to College, the pictures you take on your first visits will mean a lot to them down the road.
Which Hotels are the Closest to SMU?
There are a couple of Hotels that are very close to the SMU campus. When I say close, I mean walk out of your door and walk on to the campus close. Let’s look at these first.
You can’t get any closer to Southern Methodist than staying at the Hotel Lumen a Kimpton Hotel. It is literally across the street from the SMU grounds on Hillcrest Avenue and the Greer Garson Theatre. You might spend a little more to get a room at the Lumen but it is a 4 Star Hotel and will most guests love the layout of this hotel and rave about the friendliness of the Staff. The Deluxe rooms offer a little more space than a standard hotel. The Premier Lux and Grand Lux Suites give you additional space and also come with a Deep Soaking Tub option.
Another very close hotel is The Highland Dallas. This hotel used to be The Palomar but changed hands in the summer of 2014. This elegant 4 Star Property is only a block from the SMU Mustangs Stadium. Be careful if you walk to the campus from this hotel. There are well marked walking routes but you do have to cross the heavy traffic intersection of E Mockingbird Lane and the North Central Expressway to get to the Southern Methodist Grounds. All of the Rooms at the Highland Dallas come with Luxury Amenities and comfortable bedding. The Luxury Suites also come with a Jetted Deep Soaking Tub to relax after spending a day walking around SMU.
Close Hotels to SMU but not within Walking Distance
If you don’t mind a little bit of a drive, there are a number of other options available to you. All of these Hotels are great options, you just have to determine if you want to be close enough to walk or is a short drive acceptable?
